LNG Operations
LNG is gaining attention as a clean energy source. Since it’s first imported to Japan in 1969, our company has been supporting LNG cargo delivery operations, making us a pioneer in the industry.
Operations Overview
The LNG Group is responsible for supporting cargo delivery operation and customs clearance. With in-depth expertise in the specialized LNG cargo operation processes, we facilitate seamless communication between ship and shore to ensure “safe and smooth” cargo delivery.
-
- Vessel Arrival
- Our staff (two to three per vessel) stand by at the LNG unloading terminal upon the vessel's arrival. Once the vessel is approaching to the terminal, we promptly notify all relevant parties of its status. For safety reasons, LNG tankers may delay their arrival if weather conditions, such as wind speed and wave height, exceed terminal criteria. We always give the utmost attention to safety.
-
- Berthing Operation
- Pilots familiar with the port conditions, along with the receiving terminal's berth master, guide the LNG vessel using handheld radios. They coordinate with tugboats and mooring personnel to safely berth the vessel. Our team manages the berthing process and provides assistance to both the ship and shore if any issues arise.
-
- Pre-discharge Meeting
- To ensure safe and smooth cargo operation, representatives from the vessel and the receiving terminal hold a meeting onboard before starting cargo transfer operation. They discuss the schedule, weather and sea conditions, and exchange information about the cargo and equipment status on both sides. Our staff facilitate and interpret the discussions for both parties during the meeting.
-
- Cargo Transfer
- Following the terminal’s instructions, our staff accurately convey commands related to valve operations and cargo pump start-ups to the vessel, ensuring a smooth cargo transfer. In addition to serving as interpreters for ship-shore communication, our staff employs their senses 'sight,' 'hearing,' 'smell' as well as 'experience' to support safe and efficient cargo operations.
-
- Night Operations
- Cargo transfer usually takes around 13 hours and is completed by morning. During this time, our staff closely monitor the cargo transfer operation status onboard. Just after the transfer is complete, remaining gas in the pipelines is safely returned to the tanks on the shore or on the vessel, with our staff carefully supervising and supporting this procedure.
-
- Vessel Departure
- After the cargo transfer is all completed, a meeting is held onboard to review the operation and exchange necessary documents. Our staff facilitate and interpret during the meeting, just as we did at the pre-discharge meeting. As departure time approaches, our staff confirm the disconnection of communication cables, gangway, and bonding cable before disembarkation. We then oversee the vessel’s departure, wishing it a safe and successful voyage.
